The RA Lego Challenge!
As part of the London Festival of Architecture, the RA invited four architectural practices to compete in the annual LEGO Architecture Challenge! We put ourselves to the test, using only 15,000 LEGO bricks to interpret Cedric Price’s Fun Palace – working from his sketches, as the building was never built.
SODA spent time asking the children and students that helped, what they would include in their fun palace. We wanted to make our design contemporary and inclusive, whilst keeping to the core of Price’s overall structure. We even had a helicopter as a view finder, in homage to the famous birds eye view sketch of the building.
We were up against David Chipperfield Architects // Grimshaw // Sam Jacob Studio and judged by: Gonzalo Herrero, Architecture Programme Curator, Royal Academy of Arts // Robert Fiehn, Architectural Communications // Oli Stratford, Editor-in-chief, Disegno, and Head of Editorial, Tack Press // Tamsie Thomson, Director of the London Festival of Architecture
